Penalty shoot-outs were needed to settle both North Berks Charity Shield semi-finals as two top flight sides were knocked out by lower league opposition, writes Phil Annets.
After a goalless 90 minutes, Brian Rawlings’s opener for Berinsfield early in extra time was cancelled out by Andy Allum for Crowmarsh Gifford.
And goalkeeper Dean Dixon went on to become the hero for Berinsfield, making two saves as the Division 2 leaders won 4-2 on spot-kicks.
Keeper Andy Burt made the difference with two spot-kick saves as Division 2 side Ardington & Lockinge beat Wootton & Dry Sandford 3-2 on penalties.
Wootton took the lead through Ben Taylor, but an equaliser late in normal time from Jonny Eudell kept Ardington alive, and there was no further scoring in extra time.
Faringdon Town moved up to third in North Berks League Division 1 with a 2-2 draw at Long Wittenham Athletic.
Gary Sutton and Dan Courtney netted for the visitors, with Andy Sutherland notching a brace for Wittenham.
Harwell International’s unbeaten run was extended to 11 games with a 1-1 draw at Kintbury Rangers.
Wayne Robins was on target for the away side, while Christian Quick replied.
A Joe Flower brace fired Benson AFC to a 2-1 win at East Hendred, for whom Scott Nelmes scored.
George Northover’s strike was enough to give AFC Wallingford three precious points in a 1-0 win at fellow strugglers Drayton.
In Division 2, Sutton Courtenay ran out 4-1 winners at home to bottom club Saxton Rovers Res.
Ollie Wright, Steve Pitson, Andy Oram and Ryan Johnson got on the scoresheet for the hosts, while Frankie Haines grabbed the reply.
Jamie Stevens’s goal gave Wantage Town A a 1-0 win at Didcot Casuals Res in Division 3.
Jamie Gregory’s hat-trick was in vain as Stanford in the Vale went down 4-3 at home to Coleshill United.
Shane Blake scored twice, while Adam Sly and Richard Evans also found the net.
