City of Oxford, helped by a title treble from Joe Canlan-Shaw, came a close third in the final standings when the Oxfordshire & North Bucks Championships concluded at Aylesbury last weekend.

Canlan-Shaw, one of the oldest competitors at 24, captured three senior championship crowns in the 200m individual medley, 50m butterfly and the 200m backstroke.

With notable support from juniors such as Olivia Webster, Isobel Meikle and Harry Basterfield, City totalled 2,209 points from the four-week contest.

That put them close third behind winners host club Maxwell and runners-up City of Milton Keynes.

However, in the combined scores from ages nine to 13, City came clear top with 1,2841/2 points – more than 250 clear of Maxwell.

Overall COSC took home a haul of 105 gold, 83 silver and 72 bronze medals.

Alex Murphy, from Didcot Barramundi, captured the senior and junior championships in the 50m breaststroke with his record time of 28.53secs, and also took the 50m butterfly junior crown.

Other junior championships went to Abingdon Vale’s Niall O’Leary (boys 200m backstroke) and City of Oxford’s Lucy Smith (girls 200m butterfly).

Wantage White Horse’s Daniella Springett, 14, was second in both the open and junior 50m freestyle championship.

In the multi-disability section, City of Oxford’s Christopher Currie claimed five county titles, while clubmate Rosie Bancroft took the girls 400m freestyle.

Oxford also featured strongly in the junior age group awards.

The trio of Meikle, Emily Nisbet and Isabel Brewster filled the first three places in the girls under 12 rankings.

Webster and Maia Little led the under 11 standings, while City’s Delphine Little and Erin Gilchrist finished second and third behind under nine winner Emily Ford, from Abingdon Vale.

Georgia Tagg, from Bicester, topped the 13-year-old standings aghead of Eleanor McNally (Oxford City) and Abingdon Vale’s Lily Seaward.

In the boys age group standings, Basterfield ran away with the under 14 crown, while Didcot Barramundi’s Oliver Beard took the under 12 title, with Abingdon’s Joseph Law third.

Ed Sharp, of City of Oxford was runner-up in the under nine section, This was just ahead of Alfie Baum, whose Didcot clubmates Freddie Wilkinson and Oliver Ripley were third in the under ten and 13 sections respectively. Robert Youngs Do Patrocinio, of Oxford, was second in the under 11s.
