Two late goals from Danny Edmond earned Banbury United the points in Tuesday night’s Evo-Stik Southern League Premier Division fixture against Cambridge City at the Spencer Stadium.
Josh Blake was out of luck in the first half, hitting the Cambridge woodwork and having an effort cleared.
Cambridge’s Craig Hammond had a goal disallowed in the second half and, as more and more Banbury chances went begging, the match looked set to end in stalemate.
But on 77 minutes, John Cole crossed for Edmond to fire home the first for Banbury.
And three minutes later, the same player wrapped it up with a fine individual effort.
Didcot Town returned from their long trip to Tiverton with all three Division 1 South & West points courtesy of a Tom Gardner own goal in the 69th minute.
Tiverton, bidding for a play-off place, camped in Didcot’s half for the last ten minutes but could not find an equaliser.
Ardley United saw off Hellenic League rivals Headington Amateurs 2-0 to reach the Oxfordshire Senior Cup semi-finals.
