A new-look Didcot side were unable to prevent Poole Town from improving their Evo-Stik Southern Division 1 South & West play-off hopes with a a one-sided 3-0 victory on the south coast.

Didcot manager Dave Mudge had dropped former Premiership striker Paul Robinson from the squad following the defeat at home to Halesowen, which gave teenager Ryan Tappin his debut.

It took the Poole 33 minutes to break the deadlock. A disputed corner resulted in Michael Walker heading powerfully home past Didcot keeper Jon Henly.

Two minutes later and things got even worse as Dan Cann was on hand to turn home Glenn Howe’s cross.

And the game was effectively all over when the referee awarded the home side a penalty on half-time.

Didcot’s Jack Bernasconi was adjudged to have felled Carl Preston in the penalty box although the initial contact was outside the area.

Preston himself picked himself up to slot home the spot-kick and to make it 3-0.

Didcot improved after the break with youngsters Tappin and Harry Halls impressing after coming on from the bench.

Didcot: Henly, Bernasconi, Halliday (Tappin 65), Heapy, Pierson, Stanley, Elkins, Howell (Halls 50), Odihambo, Mudge (Concannon 80), Davis.
