North Leigh, who were 3-0 up and cruising after half-an-hour, had to survive some anxious moments before securing another three points in their bid for the Evo-Stik Southern League Division 1 South & West play-offs.

Indeed, but for a missed penalty by Taunton, the hosts would have been hauled back to 3-3 before Kieran Sanders sealed the 4-2 win in injury-time.

After a quiet start, North Leigh found their shooting bosts with three goal in seven first-half minutes.

In the 24th minute, Brian Bowles’s centre was headed past Taunton keeper Lee Matthews by Morgan Will-iams from close range.

Four minutes later, Elliott Osborne-Ricketts rifled a left foot shot from the edge of the box that the keeper got a hand to, but could not prevent going over the line.

The Millers were three goals up when Michael Hopkins’s long-range shot skimmed through a crowd of players into the far corner of the goal.

However, Taunton kept pushing and right on half-time pulled a goal back when Peter Knox was first to the ball amid a melee of players and scored from close range.

The hosts had a chance to kill the game off on 49 minutes when a great Osborne-Ricketts cross found John Mills, but he headed wide.

With the visitors gaining in confidence, North Leigh keeper Sam Warrell saved well from James Blake, Owen Irish and Knox.

It was no surprise when Luke Redrup scored a second Taunton goal in the 74th minute after some desperate defending.

With the game entering injury time a Taunton cross from the right into the box was picked up by Knox.

As he ran towards goal he stumbled. The referee pointed to the penalty spot and Knox opted to take the kick himself.

Warrell dived to his right and made the save, clutching the ball as he fell.

Seconds later Sanders dispossessed a Taunton defender, and slotted home North Leigh’s fourth goal to wrap up the points and extend their run to nine wins and a draw in the last ten games.

North Leigh: Warrell, Hole, Organ, Clark, Franklin, Caton, Mills (Burnell 65), Bowles (Sanders 79), Williams, Osborne-Ricketts, Hopkins. Subs not used: Reardon, Crudup.
