South West 1 East
WITNEY earned their first victory of 2012 with a 15-7 home success over Reading Abbey.
The hosts had more control than the scoreline suggests, but struggled to finish chances.
Witney’s pressure yielded a penalty, which fly half Henry Lamb slotted on 19 minutes.
It was still 3-0 at half-time, but Witney had some breathing space after scrum half Gareth Campbell stole the ball, beat several defenders and fed full back Phil Gouldie for a try.
The hosts kept pressing, but handed Abbey centre Tom Waterhouse an interception and he motored in from 40 metres to convert his own try.
Abbey kept plugging away, but could not stop Campbell finding a gap to score the winner, centre Tom Harper converting.
