TOM Miles’s boot earned Alchester a 9-6 victory over basement boys Marlborough, who remain winless.

Alchester had more dominance than the scoreline suggests, but various errors and infringments in the wet and cold conditions stopped them capitalising.

The hosts finally got on the scoreboard after 20 minutes when centre Miles slotted a penalty from the edge of the 22.

Marlborough levelled in kind, but Miles’s second penalty made it 6-3 at half-time.

The visitors’ second penalty restored parity on 42 minutes, while Alchester went close with a driving maul.

It fell to Miles’s third penalty, after Marlborough had a player sin-binned, to win the game.

Wallingford’s match against Aylesbury was postponed as the Bucks side were facing Grove in the Southern Counties Intermediate Cup.
