Wantage Town eased their Uhlsport Hellenic League Premier Division worries with a comfortable 4-0 victory at home to bottom club Bracknell Town on Saturday.

A torrential downpour just before the start made it a slippery surface, and the game did not flow until the second half, when the sun came out.

Wantage took the lead against the run of play in the 38th minute, Jack Daley stealing a goal from a suspiciously offside position.

The score inspired the home side, Graham Edney firing just wide two minutes later while defender Josh Cottrell and Daley contrived to miss a great chance to increase the lead.

They eventually made it 2-0 in the 61st minute, Edney firing in an unstoppable low drive from just outside the penalty area Bracknell did not capitulate, robust centre forward Ben Harris firing over the bar and Ben Knight missing from close-in.

To compound their inability to finish, Knight struck his 72nd minute penalty against the bar, after Dapo Abitogun had performed an award winning dive to emphasise a poor Wantage tackle to secure the spot-kick.

In the 83rd minute, Ben Harris was sent off after clattering into Wantage defender Stuart Cattell, the Bracknell forward walking before the referee could brandish the red card.

Wantage took advantage to set up two chances from close-in for substitute Gavin Jones, both of which he turned past Adams, after good build up play from Chris Collin.
