Declan Benjamin str-uck twice in the first nine minutes as Oxford City strengthened their Evo-Stik Southern League Premier Division play-off bid with a 4-2 win at Swindon Supermarine on Saturday.

Benjamin’s brace helped City build up a 4-0 half-time lead at struggling Swindon Supermarine, who rallied to score twice in the second half.

There was some fortune about both of Benjamin’s goals The first came in the third minute when he drove for goal from 20 yards, the ball taking a slight deflection before finding the net.

The home side were stunned, and they became even more fraught six minutes later, when Benjamin’s next shot also hit a defender before going into the goal.

City continued to hold the whip-hand and went further in front just after the half-hour.

Benjamin’s run into the area was halt by a foul.

Steve Basham, making his first start for three months due to injury, gave Supermarine keeper Ashey Harrison no chance from the resultant penalty.

Four minutes later, City made it 4-0, when Marvin Martin’s free-kick was turned home by Chris Willmott.

It looked like being a rout, but to their credit, Supermarine gave a spirited second-half disdisplay.

Four minutes after the break, they got themselves on the scoresheet.

After Harry Etheridge had gone close, former City player Nick Stanley found the net to reduce the arrears.

The hosts fought hard to close the gap still further deficit.

But it was not until the second minute of stoppage time they were able to add to their tally, Tom Cole heading in a corner from the right.

Marine will be glad to see the back of City after suffering a 7-1 thrashing earlier in the season.
