SKIPPER Jake Wright said that he could not explain why Oxford United’s second half performance was so tepid.

After such a promising start to the game, the U’s faded badly and were sunk by a last-minute goal from Greg Pearson.

And Wright says that the team know that their display was just not good enough.

“It is so frustrating,” he said. “We were really good for the opening half-hour or so, but then in the second half were poor as a team.

“I didn’t think that they were going to score, but being honest it didn’t look as if we were either and I thought it was going to be one of those games that just fizzles out.

“We knew what to do in the second half, but we couldn’t do it for some reason.

“Fair play to them, they came for a draw and got men behind the ball and broke when they could.

“And you might have to say that because of our second-half display, they maybe deserved it.

“But having said that, we played some really good stuff in the first half – some of the best we have done all season – and that makes it all the more frustrating that we didn’t get the result that we wanted.”
