North Leigh 4 (Williams 30, 84, Mills 73, 90) Halesowen Tn 2 (Hasbley 10, Jackson 39)

MORGAN Williams and John Mills scored two apiece as North Leigh finished with a flourish to beat Halesowen Town in Division 1 South & West at Eynsham Park.

North Leigh were trailing 2-1 with 17 minutes to go when Williams put Mills clear and he made no mistake with a cool left-foot finish from five yards.

Halesowen striker Michael McGrath was then sent off by referee Chris Wicks for a headbutt on Tom Franklin.

North Leigh went ahead six minutes from time when Michael Hopkins’s shot rebounded to Williams, who buried the ball into the Halesowen net.

North Leigh were now in full cry, and Mills scored a breakaway goal right on full time, rounding keeper Louis Connor before tapping in.

North Leigh had started brightly with Williams’s lob just clearing the bar after he drew Connor.

But on ten minutes Halesowen took the lead against the run of play when Ben Hasbley clipped a neat shot from eight yards past Sam Warrell.

North Leigh’s keeper then had to save smartly to prevent Hasbley doubling Halesowen’s tally.

But the hosts pressed on and were rewarded with a quality equaliser on the half-hour mark as Hopkins crossed early from the left, and Williams stretched to loop the ball over Connor into the top corner.

The Halesowen keeper turned a Franklin header over the bar by Connor, before North Leigh fell behind again when Nathan Jackson’s spectacular shot on the half volley from 40 yards caught Warrell off his line, and although he got a hand to it, he couldn’t stop it going into the net.

The second half was held up for a long period after a clash of heads which resulted in Halesowen skipper Brendan Kelly requiring treatment, before being allowed to continue.

North Leigh’s late rally then turned the game.
