PETER Leven can’t help but smile when you talk to him about life as a Twitter trend-setter.
The Oxford United midfielder does not ‘Tweet’ himself, but is loving the banter among U’s supporters that this week saw the hashtag #ThatPeterLevenheDoesWhatHeWants become the top trending topic on Twitter in the county.
When I asked him about how the last week has felt, he replied, with a beaming grin, “Yeah, it’s been fun.
“I don’t have a Twitter account myself, but a lot of people have been showing me and telling me about it all, and it’s very funny to be fair.
“I don’t know, maybe I will have to speak to the missus about getting one now as she uses it”.
Defender Michael Duberry is a regular Tweeter, and says that he is enjoying reading all the comments.
“It’s really funny,” he said. “Well, apart from the one that said that I have to make prawn sandwiches for him at half-time!
“I heard them singing ‘Peter Leven does what he wants’ in the last game so it’s great banter and I hope it keeps on trending.
“I’ve not posted anything myself though, I just keeping reading them. I don;t want to jump on it.”
And defender Damian Batt thinks he might start a new hashtag based on the Scot’s dress sense.
“I love it,” Batt said. “Lev’s a great player and it’s brilliant to see it all.
“I’ve not posted anything on there myself, but if I did, I think I might put something on there about his gear – maybe #peterlevenhewearswhathewants would be better!”
Leven, meanwhile, says that all off-the-field joviality will be pushed to one side when United take on Crewe tomorrow.
“We’ve had a good run of late, are full of confidence and we know that the only way to get in the play-offs or get automatic promotion is to have a good run, so long may it continue,” he said.
“It doesn’t matter who you play in this league, you have to be on your game.
“Saturday should be a good, open match with both teams trying to play the game in the right way.
“But if we pass the ball how I know we can, with the goalscorers we have in the team, hopefully we will get the right result.
