Jon-Paul Pittman says his dad is to thank for two of his three goals this season.

The striker scored for the second time in two Oxford United matches in their 3-0 win over Aldershot.

Pittman also found the net while on loan at Crawley earlier this season.

Two of those three goals have come with his head, and the 25-year-old thinks that because he only stands at 5ft 10ins, other clubs ignore his danger in the air.

“I think a lot of people write me off because of my height,” he said. “But I think that plays to my advantage.

“I like to win my fair share of headers. I like to get in front of defenders and I think I get up for headers pretty well.

“I have my old man to thank for that, because when I was a kid I was a lot smaller than a lot of the lads and so he had me working on that.

“Although I am not amazing in the air, I think I do OK.”

Pittman has already stated that he is focused to keep producing the goods at Oxford, and the reception he has got from the U’s fans in his last two outings has made him all the more determined to do just that.

“I heard the fans singing about me a few times and I’m liking it,” he said.

“I think it shows that the fans appreciate you and that’s the main thing.

“The fans here are great and they appreciate players who work their socks off for the team.

“I just need to remember that every time I am out there for them.”
