Banbury United are set to give new signing Josh Blake his debut when they host Barwell in the Evo-Stik Southern League Premier Division on Saturday.

The former Stratford Town striker, who signed on Saturday, is raring to go after recovering from injury.

Banbury boss Ady Fuller knows all about Blake, having worked with him when he was manager of Daventry Town.

“We call him the rat because he is a real pest to defenders,” said Fuller.

“He is very lively and has a good work rate.

“We played at Leamington together. He is very experienced and knows the ropes at this level.

“He’s tough in the tackle and defenders aren’t too keen on him. Hopefully, he can get us some goals.”

Andy Kemp returns in goal, though Ryan Howell (knee problem) and Simeon Will-iams (suspended) miss out.

Oxford City boss Mike Ford says the capture of former Oxford United defender Chris Willmott could be the key to success in the second-half of the season.

Willmott made his City bow last weekend in a 2-0 win at Bashley, but suffered agony on Tuesday when a corner deflected in off him in Tuesday’s 1-1 draw at Chesham.

Ford said the signing from Brackley, who makes his home debut against AFC Totton, had made an impact.

He added: “You can see what he brings to us defensively.

“He’s got fantastic knowledge and good organisational ability. He has brought out the best in others.

“We have lost only four games in the last 16, so to bring someone in who is better is difficult, but we have done that.”

Meanwhile, midfielder Andy Ballard has rejected a switch to Willmott’s old club.

Ford added: “He was offered a good package. But we had a chat with him and he has decided to stay, so we’re delighted. He’s wholehearted and honest and he has done well for us in midfield.”

Ford said a repeat of the midweek display would do nicely.

He said: “We went to Chesham trying to win the game and it will be the same approach against Totton.”
