Didcot Town boss Dave Mudge has urged his side to put their FA Trophy run to the back of their minds and concentrate on the visit of Taunton in Evo-Stik Southern League Division 1 South & West on Saturday.

The Railwaymen put in a superb display against the Blue Square Bet side, only to lose 1-0.

“We did ourselves proud,” said Mudge. “But we didn’t have that bit of luck that you need on the day.

“We hit a post and had one cleared off the line, but if you have a chance from five yards out you have to put it away.

“That’s out of the way and we move on. If we win, we close the gap on teams around us.

“The work ethic we have shown in the Trophy has to continue. We still have a long way to go.”

Didcot will be without skipper Alex Stanley who is out with an ankle ligament injury, but hope Reading will allow loan striker Uche Ikpeazu to play for them over Christmas.

The 16-year-old missed the Basingstoke game to play for the Royals’ youth team.

North Leigh Tom Franklin returns from a ban as they look to get back to winning ways against Bishops Cleeve.

On Saturday, the Millers were leading 1-0 at Wimborne with minutes to go, only for a controversial equaliser to deprive them of three points.

But manager Mark Gee said there were a lot of plusses.

He added: “Even though we haven’t got a 40-goal striker like Matt Taylor, the goals are being spread around all the team, which means we don’t have to rely on just one player.

“Goals haven’t been a problem, it’s been the defence, But we have defended really well in two of our last three games.

“If we keep doing that we will improve our league position.”

North Leigh will be without Sam Parrish (thigh injury), Mark Flanagan (ankle) and Joe Burnell (unavailable).
