Oxford City Stars have now gone 11 games without a win in South Division 1 following a 9-3 defeat at Invicta Dyanmos.

Stars lined up without Patrick Russell, Andrew Shurmer, Josh Oliver and James Francis-Barrie, while Sam Cheema made his debut.

Oxford started brightly, creating some great scoring opportunities especially for South African Cameron Birrell, who twice had two shots well saved by Andy Moffat.

Captain Darren Elliott also went close with a shot from distance, but it was the Gillingham-based outfit who opened the scoring through Callum Fowler. Stars were incensed by the goal with it appearing to be offside, but it stood and Invicta scored twice more in the space of 26 seconds through Justin Noble and Ryan Giles.

And Dymanos could have had more in the remaining seven minutes of the period, but for several superb saves by Chris Douglas.

Oxford fell further behind 16 seconds into the second period, with Andy Smith on target.

And free-scoring Invicta made it 6-0, with Fowler’s second and a Ryan Ellis strike as the Kent side put on a masterclass of passing and finishing.

Dynamos added No 7 on the half-hour mark, with Noble grabbing his second.

Oxford, however, showed some fight and grabbed two quick goals to reduce the defecit.

Shannon Taylor hit a slapshot from 60 feet out that decived Moffat as it went through a crowd of players to sneak in between his legs.

And then Martin Lee received the puck in front of net from Elliott and made no mistake by lifting it into the top right corner.

But the comeback was short-lived as Giles completed his brace with a controverisal goal.

Stars felt the effort should have been disallowed for a player being in the crease at the time Giles shot.

Daniel Fudger completed Invicta’s haul.

With time running out, Elliott picked up on a rebound for his second goal.
