OXFORD City missed the chance to go top of the Evo-Stik Southern League Premier Division tonight when they drew 1-1 at Chesham United.

City were heading for a 1-0 win until their former Oxford United defender Chris illmottturned the ball past his own keeper Keith McCloughlin in the third minute of injury time.

The draw leaves Mike Ford’s men in fourth place, but one point behind leaders Leamington.

Steve Basham went close for City on ten minutes and they had the upper hand for most of the first half.

The visitors continued to make the running in the second period and were finally rewarded on 75 minutes when Andy Ballard fired home from Marvin Martin’s corner.

This spurred fifth-placed Chesham into life and it needed a great McCloughlin save to maintain City’s lead.

But a high cross into the box and Willmott’s unfortunate intervention saw the hosts finish with a flourish.

Banbury United crashed out of the Birmingham Senior Cup at the second round stage after a 3-0 defeat at Leamington.

Leamington almost scored on 34 minutes when Luke Corbett’s shot was cleared off the line by Tomy Kinch.

They took the lead on 37 minutes when David Kolodynksi lobbed Andy Kemp after Ben Thackery’s clearance had fallen to him.

It was 2-0 two minutes later after Sam Adkins fired home from 25 yards.

Thackery’s misery continued when he brought down Alex Taylor for a penalty on 69 minutes and Luke Corbett scored from the spot.

Had Banbury won they would have had a home quarter-final against Birmingham City to look forward to.
