OXFORD Harlequins’ four-match winning streak was emphatically ended by a 40-3 home defeat to Barnstaple.

Fly half Joey Todd gave lacklustre Quins the lead with a penalty on three minutes, but they had wing Tom Jelley yellow-carded and Barnstaple replied with a penalty try, converted by fly half Neil Giddy.

The game was held up for 11 minutes while Barnstaple centre Mark Galliford was stretchered off to an ambulance with concussion.

But the visitors led 20-3 at the break, thanks to tries from hooker Sam Roberts and wing Toby Williamson, Giddy slotting a penalty in between.

Quins shuffled their back line, but Barnstaple prop Mark Berry was driven over.

Giddy added a penalty and converted a try from wing Luke Berry before Quins centre Martin Nutt was yellow-carded.

He was joined in the bin by Giddy, full back Will Topps adding a soft try late on.
