Wimborne Tn 1
(Kemble 86)
North Leigh 1
(Osborne-Ricketts 47)
Controversy raged as North Leigh were denied victory by a late equaliser at Wimborne Town in Evo-Stik Southern League Division 1 South & West.
Wimborne were awarded a free-kick just inside the visitors’ half in the 86th minute, and as it was taken the North Leigh defence moved up, seemingly placing at least six home players in offside positions.
But the officials let play go on, Matt Kemble beat Sam Warrell from close range, and despite strong protests the goal stood.
It was tough on North Leigh, who had bossed the game with Brian Bowles, John Mills and Elliott Osborne-Ricketts going close in the first half.
But they deservedly took the lead in the 47th minute when Michael Hopkins centred for Osborne-Ricketts to head in from five yards.
Wimborne were then awarded a penalty after Ben Willoughby was adjudged to have committed a foul, but Kemble shot wide of Warrell’s right-hand post.
North Leigh: Warrell, Hole, Hopkins, Clark, Organ, Caton, Bowles (Sanders 90), Willoughby (Burnell 78), Mills (Roberts 90), Osborne-Ricketts, Williams.
Attendance: 151.
