Redditch Utd 1
(Berwick 83)
Banbury Utd 0
Banbury United conceded a late goal in the Evo-Stik Southern League Premier Division as Redditch United exacted swift revenge for their midweek defeat.
The Puritans ran out 2-0 winners in the Red Insure Cup on Tuesday.
But they drew a blank this time as Tom Berwick’s goal seven minutes from time gave the home side victory.
Former Oxford City and North Leigh striker Jimmy Deabill had a good chance for Redditch in the first half when he went round Oxford United loanee Max Crocombe, in goal for the unavailable Andy Kemp, only to fire into the side netting.
Aaron Woodley then burst through, but blasted the ball high over the bar.
Banbury had an escape when Deabill headed Tommy Warner’s free-kick against a post.
The second half saw neither goalkeeper seriously tested until Berwick struck the ball wide of Crocombe into the corner of the net.
Banbury Utd: Crocombe, Williams (Polk 79), Kinch, Dolman, Chilton, Cole, Coleman, Howell, Edmond (Johnson 66), Woodley, Walker. Subs unused: Thackeray, Kingston.
Attendance: 172.
