Banbury remain rooted to the bottom of South League Premier 1 after a 3-2 defeat at home to Staines.

Zipping the ball around with pace and purpose, Banbury went ahead on 20 minutes when Josh Nunneley flicked the ball high into the net after Adrian Simons was awarded a short corner.

The second half started in similar vein and Banbury looked set for a welcome victory.

Staines had other ideas, scoring twice to knock the confidence of their young opponents.

However, the hosts battled back to 2-2 thanks to a penalty flick from Simons which prompted a dramatic finale.

In the last minute, Banbury were denied a sideline ball after Tyson Nunneley was tackled, leading to Staines being awarded a short corner.

The final whistle was blown and the short corner converted to leave the home side feeling robbed.

Oxford Hawks remain top of Division 2 after a 3-2 victory at lowly Purley Walcountians.

Charlie Ellison, Rob Miller and James Ward scored the goals.

Ward was aso on target the following day as Hawks were outgunned 6-2 by Canterbury in the HA Cup. Ted Bennett was their other scorer.

Oxford continued their good run with a 3-2 win at Henley in Regional Division 1.

Andy Wynd finished off a rebound at the far post to put the visitors ahead, Henley levelling via a disputed short corner.

Mark Carpenter grabbed his first goal of the season to put Oxford 2-1 up at half-time, only for Henley to square it up in the second half.

The winner came after Ed Collins’s cross found Nick Best, who slid the ball under the keeper.

Oxford 2nd beat Oxford 3rd 3-0 in their Regional 2 inter-club derby, the goals coming from Ben White, Matt Oakes and Rich Harding.

Wallingford proved too good for Oxford Hawks 2nd, winning 2-0 at Banbury Road in Middlesex, Berks, Bucks & Oxon Regional 1.

Both sides had good chances before Wallingford went ahead through Tim Chamberlain on 25 minutes, following a penetrating run by Rowan Wheeler. Ten minutes into the second half, Alun Lloyd converted a short corner to double the advantage.

Witney remain fourth in Division 2 despite a 5-2 reverse away to Ramgharia. Liam Frost and Tim Hardy netted their goals.

Bicester thumped Division 3 basement boys Henley 2nd 3-0 to move up to fifth.

All the goals came in the second half, via Jonny Reid and penalties from Harry Gaunt and CJ Birtles.
