Despite dominating the game, Banbury were unable to kill off the Evo-Stik Southern leaguePremier Division’s basement club, who made it a tense finish for the home fans.

Banbury took the lead after 20 minutes.

Glenn Walker interchanged passes with Joe Coleman on the wide right before sending in a cross which Josh Cole glanced wide of Kevin Sawyer into the corner of the net from six yards. Walker and Aaron Woodley went close with good strikes, but Banbury had to be alert to a Cirencester breakaway.

The hosts entered the comfort zone three minutes into first-half injury time, when they were awarded a free-kick for a handball, two yards outside the penalty area.

In a move from the training ground, Nick Kingston touched the ball to Liam Dolman, who smashed his shot through the defensive wall to make it 2-0.

Against the run of play, Cirencester pulled a goal back in the 55th minute when a long cross found the unmarked Mitchell Bryant, who tapped home.

This goal gave the visitors the confidence and Banbury keeper Andy Kemp had to save from Ben Hunt.

From the clearance, United were unlucky when Will Green rose to head a Walker cross powerfully for the top corner, only to see Sawyer make a fantastic fingertip save to tip the ball over the bar.
