Frilford Heath’s Eddie Pepperell was off the pace in his bid for an Alps Tour place after a frustrating time in final qualifying.

The 20-year-old, from Abingdon, shots rounds of 73, 74 and 74 to finish on seven-over-par over two courses in Tuscany, Italy.

This meant that he finished the tournament equal 62nd, with only the top 35 gaining playing rights on the tour in 2012.

Pepperell, pictured, opened with a two-over-par 73 at Toscana, followed by another two-over-par 74 at Punta Ala.

Starting his final round on four-over, Pepperell had a slim chance of making the grade.

But a double bogey on the sixth hole at Toscana meant that he reached the turn at six over par.

Despite two birdies on the back nine, Pepperell could not reverse his slide.

Pepperell reached final qualifying after finishing 12th in the opening round, which was also played on the Tuscany course.

Two one-over-par rounds of 72 were enough to send the Abingdon man through.

Pepperell was playing the Alps Tour event to keep in practice for his main priority - European Tour qualifying school next month.
