Only a handful of tickets remain for the 2011 Oxfordshire Sports Awards.

The event has once again proved a huge attraction, and organisers have warned that those who have yet to get their tickets, will need to be quick.

World Athletics Championship silver medallist Hannah England is the big name on the shortlist.

The Oxford runner, who won the Sportswomen of the Year award in 2009, is again in the final three for the same award after her sensational performance in Daegu, South Korea, where she came second in the 1,500m.

She will be up against golfer Katherine O’Connor and triathlete Sophie Whitworth.

The sportsman of the year award will be won by either disabled athlete Andrew Gardiner, rugby player Alec Hepburn or cyclist John Paul.

The Oxford Mail are the official media partners of the event, which is run by the Oxfordshire Sports Partner-ship.

The winners will be announced at a ceremony at the Kassam Stadium on Friday, December 9.

No fewer than 16 sports are represented in the 11 categories.

Zoe O’Neill, who is in charge of the event, said: “Once again the awards have proved enormously popular.

“We have already nearly sold out the number of tickets we had set aside, which only goes to show the interest.

“It promises to be another great night, where the best sporting talent in the county will be honoured for their efforts and achievements in 2011.

“Anybody who has not yet got their ticket should contact me immediately to avoid possible disappointment.”
