Oxford Hawks took over at the top of the South League Premier Division after seeing off previous leaders West Hampstead 4-2 at Banbury Road North.

Hampstead took the lead early on, but Hawks were soon level, man-of-the-match Kieran Roche netting a rebound off the keeper, following a Charlie Ellison strike. Joe Brownhill set up Ted Bennett for Hawks’ second, and James Ward settled their nerves with a third goal before the break.

Hampstead pulled one back and exerted more pressure, with several short corners awarded.

Phil Hargreaves made a diving save from one of them and with ten minutes remaining, Ellison des-patched a short corner to wrap up victory.

Oxford maintained their unbeaten home record with a 3-2 win over Sonning to keep pace with the teams at the top of Regional Division 1.

Dan Smyth put the home side ahead early on and they extended their lead midway through the half when Alex Williams’s cross was deflected in by Kit Cutter.

Keeper Chris Mitty kept Sonning at bay, but when Cutter was sin-binned in the second half, Sonning took advantage to score twice.

With a minute left, Cutter went from villain to hero with a reverse-stick effort for the winner.

Wallingford saw off local rivals Henley 4-2 at the Hithercroft in Regional Division 1.

Horatio Cary converted two slick short corners to give his side the advantage, Henley pulling one back midway through the first half.

Alun Lloyd put Wallingford 3-1 up at the break and after Henley replied again, Tim Chamberlain made sure for the home side.

A brace from Jonny Reid and a superb goal by man-of-the-match Geoff Snell saw Bicester come back from 2-0 down at half-time to win a thriller 3-2 at Milton Keynes in Middlesex, Berks, Bucks & Oxon Division 1.

Witney saw off Newbury & Thatcham 3-2. Early goals from Jacob Deacon and Justin Peel put Witney in command, but the visitors rallied and it needed Tim Hardy’s last-minute drag-flick to secure the points.
