WITNEY super middleweight (Steve) Marvin Mullins returns to the ring for his second fight since turning professional at Chippenham on Saturday, December 3.

The 31-year-old delivered a text-book performance during his baptism in the paid ranks at the end of last month.

He never dropped a round as he cruised to victory over southpaw Bobby Wood – also a former England amateur international – in Swindon.

Mullins said: “I was pleased, but I know this is only the start of a new career.

“There are some considerable differences from amateur boxing – no headguards plus the approach to the sport is altogether different.

“And you use lighter gloves, so you feel the punches more when your opponent catches you. “But I feel the longer durations of the rounds – along with four or six rounds unlike three in the amateur ranks – suits my own style far better.

“There is a great atmosphere at the Horseshoe gym where I train and there is always a bit of banter surrounding the weekend football results of the yellows and the reds on Mondays – my team Oxford United are doing better than Swindon Town so I have the bigger smile at the moment.

“But football apart, there is a great team spirit there with everybody helping each other in a demanding individual sport.”

Mullins will be boxing four three-minute rounds at the Olympiad Leisure Centre and tickets priced at £35 and £60 (VIP) are available on 07710 304212.

His opponent will be named within the next week.
