JONATHAN Franks says that he is raring to go at Oxford United – and is confident it will be second time lucky at the Kassam Stadium.

The Middlesbrough striker joined the U’s on loan at the start of September, but after just two days at the club, dislocated his shoulder in a behind-closed-doors friendly against Bristol City.

But after two months of hard work, the 21-year-old is back at Oxford, and cannot wait to pull on the yellow shirt.

“It’s been frustrating for me, but I’m back now raring to go and hope to get some games under my belt this time,” he said.

“It was only my second day here when it happened and it was very painful, but I had to go back to Middlesbrough and do things properly in terms of getting fit again.

“But I have done that and now I can’t wait to get going here.”

Franks, who is at the Kassam Stadium until January, has stayed in constant contact with boss Chris Wilder, and says that it is the desire shown by United’s manager that is why he is looking forward to his stay so much.

“The gaffer really made me feel wanted,” he said.

“The lads are doing really well and flying at the moment so I am hoping to help them to promotion during my spell here.

“I came down to watch the game with Accrington and have been in contact with the club while I have been getting fit again.”

He added: “When I heard Oxford were interested I was excited straight away.

“It is a big drop from the Championship to League Two, but Oxford is a big club and they and the manager have made me feel wanted from day one.

“I know Tommy Craddock from Middlesbrough and he only had good things to say about the club.”

Franks has represented England at all levels from under 16 through to under 19.

And he is so highly thought of at Middlesbrough that he has already made 28 appearances for them – ten starts and 18 as a substitute, scoring three goals.

So what can the Oxford supporters expect to see from him?

“The fans can expect 100 per cent effort from me every week. I always give my all,” he said.

“I like to stretch teams and get in behind and hopefully I can do that here.”

The striker has further reason to want to do well ast Oxford as he could be a free agent in the summer.

“My contract is up at the end of the season at Middlesbrough so I need to get games under my belt,” he commented.

“And you never know, if I do well and help Oxford get promotion then anything could happen.”
