Oxford United have broken new ground after agreeing their first community football partnership.

The U’s have linked up with Abingdon Youth FC, after developing strong relationships with the club over the past years.

United’s James Peterson said of the link-up: “Abingdon Youth achieved Charter Standard Development status this year and we felt they would be the ideal candidate to launch our Youth Community Football Partnership.

“We hope to develop even stronger ties with Abingdon and to further promote Oxford United in the community.

“We hope that this will lead to even more clubs wanting to go forward with the football club.”

Abingdon spokesman Nathan Franks added: “We are very proud to be the first club to be officially linked with OUFC as a community partner in youth football.

“Both clubs have worked hard to develop this partnership to help raise the profile of Oxford United with the families and players associated with Abingdon.”
