OXFORD Saints have appointed former player Andrew Day as their new head coach.

Day, who has worked as the club’s defensive co-ordinator, will take charge of team affairs for the 2012 season.

He first joined Oxford Eagles as a junior, before making his senior bow for the F-14 Tomcats in 1987.

In 1995, Day joined Oxford Saints, and has remained with them ever since.

He has two divisional titles under his belt from 1995 and 2006 and also collected a Most Valuable Player award during his career.

Day was a quarterback and linebacker, but had to retire frmo playing due to two serious leg injuries.

However, his knowledge of American Football in the UK is well-renowned, and the club are hoping for more success.

Chairman John Farley said: “Over the last couple of years, Andrew has taken on more and more of the coaching responsibility.

“The next logical step was to appoint him head coach.

“We are now looking forward to the 2012 season with him at the helm.

“Andrew has the full support of everyone connected with the club, committee, players and supporters.”

The club will shortly be announcing dates and details for their open day sessions, while Day is now set to begin the process of assembling coaching and playing staff.
