The match might be four months away – but it’s still the one everyone wants to watch.

Tickets for Oxford United’s League Two derby clash against Swindon went on sale on Tuesday.

And supporters just couldn’t wait to make sure that they secured a seat for the eagerly-anticipated clash at the Kassam Stadium on Saturday, March 3.

United ticket office manager Matt Everett said that staff expected a frantic day – and were certainly not let down.

“We know what a big game it is and were anticipating a really busy day,” he said.

“We sold over 1,000 tickets, which is excellent, and we are expecting the next couple of weeks to be busy as well before the tickets go on general sale.”

The sheer volume of people calling United meant that for large parts of the day, staff were unable to make any calls out of the club.

Everett added: “We couldn’t make a call from the ticket office until much later in the day.

“Every time we picked up a phone, because of the amount of people queuing on the system to get tickets, you were answering the next person waiting and couldn’t phone anyone yourself.”

Season-ticket holder Andrew Curley was among those to secure an extra seat for the game, and he was delighted.

“You can’t miss Swindon,” he said.

“I sit in the South Stand Upper, and I was getting a ticket for my dad, Martin, as well as my ticket for the game against Southend this week.

“I went to the Swindon game earlier in the season, but this is the first taste of a big derby game against them in the league here and I can’t wait.

“I am confident we can get promotion this season, and if we do that by doing the double over Swindon as well, that will make it even sweeter.”
