Oxford Hawks took their revenge for two defeats at the hands of Ashford (Kent) last season by winning their South League Premier 2 encounter 5-1.

James Ward got them off the mark and Charlie Ellison made it 2-0, Ashford pulling a goal back shortly before the break.

Hawks zipped the ball around in the second half and with plenty of movement off the ball, it meant the visitors were always chasing the game. Two more Rob Miller goals from short corners put Hawks firmly in command.

With ten minutes left, Kieran Roche had to leave the pitch after being knocked out by an Ashford tackle, before Sam Chilvers found the far back board to complete the scoring.

Tom Coppin was man-of-the-match.

Hawks made it weekend double by coming from 3-0 down to record a magnificent 4-3 win at Chelmsford in the second round of the HA Cup.

Chelmsford, who play in a division higher than Hawks, led 1-0 at half-time, and the visitors soon found themselves 3-0 down after the break.

However, Kieran Roche, Sam Chilvers and Craig Larner got them back on level terms and a second from Chilvers sealed a remarkable comeback.

Oxford were held 2-2 at home by Ashford (Middlesex) in Regional Division 1.

Keeper Chris Mitty made some smart saves before Ashford took the lead from their third corner of the game.

Kit Cutter levelled with his first league goal for the club to make it all square at the break.

Oxford came out stronger in the second half, and took the lead from another short corner, Cutter’s rising strike being deflected over the keeper by a defender’s stick.

Rich Beer was yellow-carded for not retreating five metres, allowing Ashford to apply some pressure, and they eventually levelled from another corner.

Witney were held to a 3-3 draw by Tring in Regional Division 2.

Tim Hardy (2) and Justin Peel were on the mark.

Bicester were handed a lesson in finishing at Eastcote 2nd as their depleted side crashed 9-1 in MBB&O Division 1.

They were a goal down within eight seconds and went in at half-time 5-0 in arrears.

Harry Gaunt pulled a goal back, but Eastcote turned the screw again.
