Premier Division outfit Wantage Town were given an almighty fright by Division 1 West side Letcombe before triumphing 11-10 in an amazing penalty shoot-out in the Uhlsport Hellenic League's Bluefin Insurance Brokers Challenge Cup second round.

The tie had finished 1-1 after extra time, with hosts Wantage taking the lead after 31 minutes through a Sean Webb own goal.

Paul Jezzard fired a penalty wide for Letcombe early in the second half, before making amends by volleying the equaliser with six minutes left.

With no further scoring in extra time, the match went to penalties and Wantage squeezed through after an incredible 26 spot-kicks, with Jezzard again firing past a post.

Headington Amateurs, of Division 1 West, dumped out Premier Division side Kidlington 5-2.

Aftab Hafiz opened the scoring for Headington, before Luke Cuff doubled their lead at the break.

Zac McEachran pulled one back only for Shaun Jacob to make it 3-1.

Lewis Coyle’s 22-yard drive kept Kidlington’s hopes alive.

But Cuff grabbed his second and Jack Hayhurst wrapped up victory for Headington, pouncing on the ball after keeper Keith Mitchell caught his studs in the turf, incurring a serious injury, which saw him taken to hospital.

Abingdon Town bowed out 2-0 at home to Shortwood United.

A Jake Parrott strike and Joe Tustain’s spot-kick in the first half ended Abingdon’s challenge. Ardley United cruised past Thame United with a 3-0 home win.

Carl Standen’s cross floated over the Thame keeper for Ardley’s opener.

Thorne doubled their lead with a shot from an acute angle a minute into the second half, before Ryan Brooks raced through to seal victory. Shrivenham went out 1-0 at home to Slimbridge, Alex Higgs grabbing the winner nine minutes from time.

Joe Harper’s second-half brace proved in vain as Abingdon United Res went down 5-2 at home to Premier Division leaders Flackwell Heath. Riccardo Cannon and Lee Thompson with a double apiece and Harry Pritchard made up Flackwell’s tally.

Two late goals sunk Carterton in a 4-3 defeat at Wootton Bassett Town.

A Jamie MacDonagh brace and a Lee Watkins strike looked to have won it for Carterton.

But Mitch Wyatt added to his earlier strike and Alex Green grabbed the winner a minute from time.

James Blake had openedthe scoring for Bassett in the first minute.
