Tyrone Marsh scored a cracking winning goal as Oxford United’s Reserves beat Southend 2-1 in Tuesday night's Totesport.com Combination North Division clash at Didcot Town.

The U’s youth team player showed great composure to chest down Asa Hall’s through ball, before dummying visiting keeper Daniel Bentley and slotting home into the corner of the net 12 minutes into the second half.

It completed a great comeback for United, who trailed to a 20-yard 15th-minute strike from Blair Sturrock.

Triallist David De Silva, who scored twice in the reserves’ 2-2 draw at Stevenage last week, levelled when he reacted quickest after Deane Smalley’s shot was parried out by Bentley midway through the opening period.

United were worthy of the win and almost added further goals through Smalley and Hall.

As well as De Silva, the U’s took a look at ex-Northampton centre back Chris Doig, fellow defenders Olumide Dorojaye and Stephen O’Donnell, and midfielder Sanchez Payne.

Oxford Utd Res: Brown, Dorojaye, O’Donnell (Marsh 40), Doig, Kinniburgh, Payne, Whing, Hall, Payne, Smalley, De Silva (Morris 84). Subs not used: Hinchliffe, Alderman.
