Oxford United will wait to hear the full extent of Jonathan Franks’s injury before deciding whether to bring in another striker on loan.

The Middlesbrough man dislocated his shoulder in a behind-closed doors friendly at Bristol City this week.

And U’s assistant manager Mickey Lewis said he had a lot of sympathy for the loanee.

“It is so frustrating for the lad,” Lewis said. “He’d only been here a couple of days, was very enthusiastic and couldn’t wait to get started.

“It was a pretty innocuous challenge, but that sort of thing can happen anywhere – in training, a practice game, wherever – it’s so unfortunate.

“He is going for scans and until we know exactly what the damage is and how long he will be out – we’re thinking it will be at least a month – we’ll have to wait and see (with regard to a new loan striker).”

Discussions are also ongoing regarding the loan spell of fellow striker Lewis Guy.

“Lew is here for Saturday and then we will decide what happens next,” Lewis added.
