WOODSTOCK Harrier Steve Naylor rounded off his 2011 Mota-vation Series campaign with his fifth successive win and a course record in the final round in Oxford.

After a month without racing due to a slight ankle injury, Naylor completed the grand slam of five wins as he cruised to victory by a margin of 45 seconds ahead of Oxford City’s Darrell Bellinger.

Passing through two miles, Naylor had a clear lead, and, saving energy for the last mile, he crossed the line in 20mins 11secs – breaking the course record by seven seconds.

This was Naylor’s third record of the season.

His performance meant he lifted the overall and senior men’s title, with Bellinger second and Abingdon Ambler Dan Hamilton third.

Steve Male’s solid series helped Oxford City to the men’s team prize, with Wood-stock Harriers finishing in the silver medal position.

In the women’s competition, Headington’s Jude Craft took the series title and vet 35 ladies’ crown, while Wood-stock Harriers’ Jess Webb won the senior ladies’ prize.

Webb took first place in the final round, finishing 52nd overall in a time of 24.17.

Headington A won the women’s prize.

With a few absentees, including previous leader Sophie Carter, Webb was never troubled and led the women’s field from gun to tap to claim her first victory of the season.

Naylor is now in Portugal for warm weather training ahead of the cross country season, which starts in November.

NEXT season sees the silver jubilee of the Mota-vation Series, with the first race at Charlton-on-Otmoor on May 3.
