Loan striker Jonathan Franks has been ruled out for a month after suffering a dislocated shoulder in a friendly match.
The Middlesbrough striker, who joined Oxford United on transfer deadline day, did not play at Crewe on Saturday because of a knock.
But the 19-year-old has suffered more agony, after picking up the injury in a behind-closed doors friendly against Bristol City this week.
With fellow striker Tom Craddock out for another month, boss Chris Wilder must now decide whether to sign another striker when the loan window reopens today.
