SIMON Hole looked to the bigger picture after a heady weekend saw Shipton-under-Wychwood claim three trophies in 24 hours.

Shipton’s captain admitted there were a few sore heads on Sunday morning after the players had celebrated winning the MP Sports Cherwell League.

But this did not stop them claiming the OCB District Cup and their first Bernard Tollett Oxfordshire Cup during a fine day at Great & Little Tew.

Asked what it felt like to be a treble-winning captain, Hole simply replied: “It is great.

“Everybody at the club has bought into the progress we are making.

“It’s not just the first team, it is the whole club.

“It is what we needed after a few years in the doldrums with an older side.

“We are looking to progress and bringing in more youngsters.”

Shipton edged out Banbury in the main final on fewer wickets lost and Hole felt holding their nerve showed a lot about his side.

“It shows how much we have progresed over the last couple of years,” he said.

“If you go back two or three years, we would probably have lost that game.

“It was quite a flat pitch, but Ryan Newhook and Shaun Miller bowled very well to set us a target of 101.

“Having batted so well in the first final and won the league the previous day, it gave us a real boost going into the Oxfordshire Cup final.

“We knew this game was going to be tougher than Great Tew.

“Having played a game on the pitch already, we knew what it was doing and we got our tactics right.”

Having made 171-4 batting first against Tew, it was slightly surprising that Shipton opted to bowl after winning the toss against Banbury.

But Hole said: “We had been chasing really well in the previous rounds.

“We have got good options for restricting teams.”

Hole added that Shipton were likely to employ an overseas professional next year to improve their chances of staying in the Home Counties Premier League.

This would mean they are unable to enter the Persimmon Village Cup.
