STRIKES from Lee Steele and Felipe Barcelos saw Oxford City return to winning ways in their Premier Division clash at Court Place Farm on Saturday.

It was a tight encounter, but City produced most of the chances and deservedly claimed victory to move up to sixth place in the table.

Steele was unfortunate with a couple of early efforts.

First he saw Leamington keeper Tony Breeden parry a shot back to him, but Steele’s follow-up header from close-range went into the side netting.

City went in front when Barcelos was fouled in the box by James Moore, and Steele made no mistake from the spot.

Little was seen of Leamington’s attack as City coped admirably with any threat their opponents offered.

And 13 minutes into the second half, the home side doubled their lead with a neat piece of football.

Steele back-heeled the ball into the path of Barcelos, who went on to place a shot past Breeden.

At the other end, Thomas Barwick drove wide, before Barcelos sent a cross from Jack Ashton just over the bar.

The visitors pulled a goal back when Stephen Morley composed himself at the far post, before letting fly with a powerful effort that whistled into the opposite corner.

The goal gave Leamington some hope, but City’s defence stood firm to run out worthy winners.
