WHEATLEY kick off their season on Saturday by hosting Thames Valley Police in the Dale Gostick Memorial Cup (3).

This annual fixture remembers Gostick, a Wheatley player, who was killed in May 2008 while serving with the Royal Marines in Afghanistan.

Wheatley chairman Peter Ramsdale said: “It hard to believe it is three years since the tragic death of Dale.

“This fixture always reminds us of what Dale and Wheatley RFC are about, enjoying the contest on the field of play, and enjoying a beer and time with friends after the fixture.

“Dale was a huge character and fiercely competitive, always making time for all who needed him.”

The match is in aid of the Help for Heroes charity.

Meanwhile, Harwell host a charity match between a Smeg XV and a Pyrotec XV on Sunday.

The game kicks off at 2.30pm and supports Wooden Spoon, the official children’s charity of rugby.
