It was a real family affair as an Oxford City & County trio gained a dramatic success to lift the Thame Triples Trophy at the Queens Road club.

Skip Len Lacey, his wife, Sue, and their son-in-law, Paul Lopez, triumphed 11-9 against South Oxford’s Richard Green, Philip Simpson and Keith Mobley in the final as the competition celebrated its 25th anniversary.

After establishing a 7-2 lead in the ten-end decider, the City & County triple were facing defeat after Mobley’s side fought back to lead 9-7 and were holding one shot on the last end.

But skip Lacey delivered his last wood on the opposite hand to his own view, moving the jack a few inches to score four and snatch victory from the jaws of defeat.

The two finalists had booked their places in the decider after topping their respective groups of six in the all-day competition.

And it was the second time the Laceys had lifted the trophy, with their previous success coming 19 years ago when their triple was completed by the late Neil Woodward.
