Oxford City boss Mike Ford has vowed to make changes for Saturday’s Premier Division trip to Cirencester Town after his side’s 6-0 midweek thrashing at AFC Totton.

City were looking to get their first win following a decent display in their opener against Redditch United, which finished 1-1, but they were given a lesson in finishing by a ruthless Totton side.

“We defended appallingly against a good team, who are likely to be up there at the end of the season,” said Ford, who adds winger Michael Lyon to his squad.

“You’ve got no chance when you do that. We wouldn’t have beaten an under 11 team.

“I have calculated that we must have made 20 defensive mistakes in the game, which is more than we did in the whole of pre-season.

“We were 4-0 down at the break, but did better in the second half and it could have finished 5-5 with the chances both sides had.

“There is no point on dwelling on it – it was a catalogue of defensive errors that cost us six goals.”

Ford added: “I will be making changes. Some of the players deserve to play again. Andy Ballard and Darren Pond would be playing, but they are both unavailable.

“Jimmy Deabill played in the second half and caused them a number of problems with his pace, so he’s definitely in my thinking for a start.”

Banbury United manager Ady Fuller is set to give first starts to defender Martin Hutchcox and on-loan striker Aaron Woodley as his side look to break their Premier Division duck at Bashley.

Having drawn their opener 1-1 with Hitchin last weekend, they went down 3-1 at new boys Barwell on Tuesday, and now Fuller hopes the duo can help him get that first win.

He has raided old club Daventry Town for Hutchcox, who played in their 2-0 pre- season win at Banbury, while Woodley, who is on-loan from Oxford United, came on as substitute against Barwell.

“Martin’s a no-nonsense centre half,” said Fuller, who will be without the unavailable Simeon Williams and Lewis Travers.

“He’s good in the air and will be ideal for us. He’s also got a bit of pace.

“When Aaron came on and was very positive and was keen to get hold of the ball and run at people.”

Tommy Kinch is away, but would have missed out anyway after suffering concussion against Barwell.

Fuller said his side needed to wise up. “We’ve got to learn to take our chances “We are a young side and have to wise up quickly. We have played some really good football and have been the better side in both games.

Abingdon United boss Richie Bourne has urged his side to cut out the errors at the back, starting with the visit of Paulton Rovers.

On Tuesday, Bourne’s men lost 2-0 at home to Hungerford.

“I thought we were unlucky against a good Hungerford side – two mistakes cost us,” said Bourne, who gives a late fitness test to Leon Bird (shoulder injury).

“I was satisfied with the overall performance though, and the lads couldn’t have done much more.”

They will be without Sean Mckeon (suspended) and Adam Doyle (holiday).

Didcot Town may give fitness tests to Josh Miller (knee) and Jack Durrant (dead leg) ahead of their home clash with Hungerford.

The duo picked up injuries in Tuesday’s 1-1 draw against Yate.

Boss Francis Vines said: “We will see how they shape up, but hopefully they’ll both be OK.”

North Leigh striker Matty Taylor could be ruled out for up to six weeks with a knee injury.

Last season’s top-scorer was due to have a scan yesterday after injuring his left knee in Saturday’s home defeat by Mangotsfield.

“It could be knee ligament damage and if that’s the case, then it’s a six-week job,” said boss Mark Gee, who could be without Josh Dutton-Black (knee) and Andy Caton (Achilles) for the trip to Stourport Swifts.

“We lost Matty last season to an injury and like then we need people to step up to the plate.”
