RADLEY were celebrating after clinching the Southern Men’s League Division 2 West title in great style at Horspath Road on Saturday.

In a big top-of-the-table clash, leaders Radley took on second and third-placed teams Wycombe and Basingstoke, and emerged triumphant to complete a brilliant season, in which they dropped just one league point.

On the day, Radley finished six points ahead of Wycombe after a tight contest.

Their 400m hurdlers played a key role in the victory.

Chris Masters, better known as a 100m runner, filled in and ran an impressive 64.07secs and second-string Corey Brooks also clocked a personal best to gain valuable, if unexpected points.

Ossy Muskwe again shone for Radley, while several athletes who were not 100 per cent fit due to recent illnesses, ran valiantly for crucial points throughout the day.

Under 17 high jumper Joe Finch improved his personal best by ten centimetres to win the B string in with 1.70m.

Stuart Ferguson produced a late burst to win the 3000m steeplechase in a pb time of 10mins 34.71secs.

Not to be outdone by their younger counterparts, masters athlete Chris Franks produced several seasons’ bests in hammer and shot, while Brian Taylor shone in the 400m, despite windy conditions.

Match result: 1 Radley 116pts, 2 Wycombe 110, 3 Basingstoke 82, 4 Havant 43.
