The Kite and Original Swan produced one of the longest legs in memory – with the opener in their Greene King Oxford & District League Section 11 clash lasting an amazing hour and 20 minutes.

The Kite set every throw and Original Swan’s anchor man, Andy Durham, was the unlucky player who played each tie to the last stick.

If he needed to hit the doll to tie he did, and at the same time if a miss was needed for a tie he also managed that. The first throw was tied 9-9, three sticks were tied 3-3 as was one stick 0-0.

The leg went back to six sticks and this was tied 8-8, three sticks were all-square at 4-4 and one stick 1-1.

So it was back to six sticks again and this time the Kite ended the marathon leg by prevailing 14-10.

The next two legs were a bit of an anti-climax as the Kite won them both 10-6, 11-8 for a 3-0 victory.

On a normal night players would throw 18 sticks these players – but this time they threw an incredible 38 sticks each.
