Banbury suffered a calamatious collapse which turned almost certain victory into a 20-run defeat in their Home Counties Premier LeagueDivision 1 match at Bishop’s Stortford.

Having bowled out their hosts for 168, with left-arm spinner Luke Ryan taking 3-39 on his return from injury, Banbury appeared to be cruising home at 90-2.

But Craig Haupt was run out, and the side crumbled to the bowling of Simon Lindop, who claimed four wickets as they slumped to 148 all out.

No blame could be attached to Richard West, who was ninth out for a spectacular 78 off 111 balls, with 12 fours and a six.

But he lacked support from his teammates and Banbury suffered their second successive defeat.
