Chris Leaney was Aston Rowant’s hero with ball and bat as they secured an unlikely draw at home to Home Counties Premier League Division 2 West leaders Burnham.

First, the teenager returned the impressive figures of 5-24 from just six overs as Burnham amassed 247 all out after winning the toss.

Then, as No 11, he batted out the last nine overs with Ryan Chapman to stave off defeat.

With Burnham at 89-3, the game could have gone either way. But a stand of 125 between Adnan Malik and Aftab Khan ensured they set a good total.

Khan departed for 67 as Oxfordshire Under 16 spinner Leaney limited them to 247.

Rowant’s reply started shakily. Despite opener Josh Smith’s 58, they slumped to 120-8 – and seemingly imminent defeat.

But Chapman, with a sensible unbeaten 57, found worthy support from Tom Needham and then Leaney, who survived 26 balls to earn Rowant a draw.
