Ben Thomas scored on his Ardley United debut as their opening Uhlsport Hellenic League Premier Division fixture got off to an explosive start with four goals in the first 22 minutes of a 2-2 draw against Slimbridge.

The visitors drew first blood after seven minutes when a shot from Brad Martin took a deflection and looped over stranded keeper Joe White.

Two minutes later, Ardley were level when Thomas headed home Stuart Bridges’s corner.

The home side then took the lead in the 11th minute when Louis Cordice left his marker trailing, before coolly slotting past the keeper.

But Slimbridge equalised 11 minutes later as Karl Nash rounded a defender and blasted home past White.

The second half never quite lived up to the first, as the pace dropped.

Troy Bryan had a strong penalty appeal turned down for Ardley, but that apart neither side looked like grabbing a winner.
