HANNAH England will look to back up her recent success with victory in the Diamond League meeting at Crystal Palace on Saturday.

The 24-year-old Oxford City athlete races for the final time on home soil before heading to the World Championships in Daegu, Korea.

Having edged out Lisa Dobriskey in a storming finish to the Aviva UK Trials and Championship 1,500m at Birmingham’s Alexander Stadium at the weekend, England’s confidence will be high.

With her recent time of 4mins 1.89secs the fastest this year clocked by any of the field set to race in the London Grand Prix, England is tipped to win again.

This would be another big step towards Daegu as England looks to make her mark at a major championships.

And having failed to advance beyond the heats at March’s European Indoor Championships in Paris, she is even more motivated.

“I was really disappointed with how I did in Paris, I was gutted but it really is spurring me on to make sure that I don’t let it happen again,” said England.

“The performance in Birmingham gives me a lot of confidence and I really want to make the final in Daegu.

“It’s great that there is strength within the Brits and that we are competitive and so it’s really important for me to give a good representation of myself there.”

Reflecting on her second successive UK title, which came after recovering from an Achilles injury, England said: “It feels fantastic to come here and win again.

“It was hard work, but it was a great time and I’m so pleased with that performance.

“It’s been a hard couple of weeks because of my injury and so I’m really surprised. I put in the hard work, but you never really know how it will pay off on the track.

“It could turn out that the injury is a blessing in disguise. I certainly haven’t peaked too early or over-raced because of the injury and so that makes me think that I will get stronger and that's a real positive.”

England will be confirmed in the British team for Deagu in the official announcement on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, former Radley athlete Hatti Dean is still out with a hip injury, which stopped her competing in the 3,00om steeplechase in Birmingham and makes her participation in Korea increasingly doubtful.
