The race for the Division 1 title remains wide open in the Oxford & District League sponsored by Yarnton Nurseries after Headington A suffered a surprise home defeat at the hands of City & County A.

City & County skip Mike Petersen played some telling shots.

With only one game remaining, the champions now have to rely on getting a big win in their final fixture against Banbury Central A and other results going their way.

Central themselves put themselves right back into contention with a full house away at Bicester, who are relegated as a result. But they have a difficult next game against second-placed Carterton, who did not play.

Witney Mills’s run in the top flight came to an end after a heavy defeat at the hands of Kidlington, who scored their first century and full house of the season.

Kidlington’s Chris Weller and his rink secured the top individual score of the night.

Banbury Chestnuts are promoted from Division 2 as champions following another maximum score, their fifth of the campaign.

Opponents Woodstock, barring a miracle, are relegated after enduring a difficult season.

The race for second spot and promotion remains between South Oxford A, who beat Banbury Central B, Shiplake and West Witney, who shared the points when they met.

Leaders Thame beat second-placed Watlington in Division 3 and so there is no change at the top.

Rover continued their good form and go third after beating bottom club Bloxham, while Blackbird Leys got back on track with a solid home win against Headington B.

Any one of three teams can still take the Division 4 title, with Witney Town, Chadlington and Charlbury all securing wins against the bottom three.

In the last game of the day, Hanborough beat Chipping Norton.
