Oxford can go all the way in the ECB National Club Twenty20 competition after claiming the Home Counties Premier League crown.

That’s the view of Ian Crosby, who skippered Oxford to success on home turf with victories over Henley and Harpenden.

Oxford now proceed to area finals day in Middlesex on August 14, where they take on the Middlesex champions, with Brentwood (Essex) facing Cambridge Granta (East Anglia) in the other semi-final.

“The national finals are at Cardiff and live on Sky, so that is a great incentive for us,” said Crosby.

“We are confident we have a side that can go all the way.

“I definitely want to go to the finals, and on the day, anything can happen.”

“We are pretty confident of going forward – the 20-over side we have is really well balanced.

“Our spinners give us some really good options and I didn’t even bowl Usman Arif on Sunday – even though he is our leading wicket taker.”

Crosby added: “We were a bit disappointed to lose at Shipton in the Oxfordshire Cup when we were no-where near at full strength.

“Shipton played well, but if we had had a stronger team out, I would have been confident we would have won it.”

Victory on Sunday was a boost for Oxford, who have slipped to 63 points off the title pace in Division 1 of the Serious Cricket Home Counties Premier League.

Crosby hopes keeping in the twenty20 action will boost their league form.

“It should keep us focused on both fronts,” he said.

Crosby has been Oxford’s twenty20 captain this season and will continue in that role on .

Club captain and coach Jason Harrison said: “I will be coaching on the day and will play if there is an injury crisis or anything like that.”

Reflecting on their victories over Henley and Harpenden, Crosby felt Oxford’s superior fielding had been crucial.

He added: “We did really well to pull Harpenden back in the final.

“Chris Sandbach is just a part-time off-spinner, but to bowl four overs for 17 runs was a superb effort.

“He was supported well by Ian Evans and Shami Mendis before Brad Sutherland came up with a magnificent spell.

“Home advantage was a big factor for us as well.”
