Match fishing

THE fourth round of the Super League was fished by seven teams of six on the Medley and Folly stretches of the Thames and produced two cracking bags of roach.

The section on Medley with the least flow, the Perch Bay, produced the goods.

Matt Herbert (Drennan GOT Baits) triumphed with a cracking 27.5.0 from near the Poplars, using on a four-metre whip with maggot over groundbait.

Richard Head (Drennan GOT Baits) was second with 20.14.0 from two pegs above the winner, an all-roach catch on 11 metre pole with maggot.

Paul Passmore (Turners) did enough with 13.13.0 to finish third from Folly. He had 5lb of perch on chopped worm and the rest of his fish were bleak on the whip.

Team-wise, Turners won easily on the day with 43 points and now lead the league by 11 from Drennan GOT Baits Red.

The Carp League 2011 travelled across to Moorlands Farm in Worcestershire, and it fished pretty fairly for the 17 matchmen.

Mick Lane caught carp up to 12lb to win with 134.14.0, using pellet at 13 metres fished shallow, and later, paste down the edge.

In-form Gary Knight also landed some big carp for a second-placed 129.15.0 on pellet fished shallow.

Paste over pellet gave Scott Miller (Predator) third spot with 112.4.0.

Last Sunday’s Summer League was fished by 22 anglers at Ridgeway and Bill Bryant took top spot with 64.0.0 of carp on the pole at 16 metres with banded pellet.

Phil Weston had to settle for second with 60.0.0 on pellet, followed by Martin Avons with 43.0.0 of carp on hair-rigged pellet.

The latest Coldstone match was fished on Banbury Reservoir, but the bream were reluctant to feed.

Winner Don Hedges found ten of them on boilie and the method for 42.12.0.

Gary Didcock had a few bream and some small perch on the feeder for 18.8.0, his biggest bream going 6.1.0, and third was Barry Barnes with 13.12.0, comprising three bream and some bits. Seven anglers fished.

A very low Stable Lake saw 12 anglers turn out for Marston’s open match, and it was Jim Foster who went home with the cash.

He caught carp on banded pellet and pole for 41.11.0, pipping Graham Bradshaw with 40.11.0 of carp on either pellet or chopped worm.

Steve Tomkins had carp and bream on pellet and worm for a third-placed 29.8.0.
